Community Center
This 6,000 sq. ft. facility,, opened in January 1996, on the site of the former U.S. Post Office for the City of Mandeville. Mandeville's unprecedented growth caused the U.S. Post office to construct a larger structure in the early 1990s. Once the new U.S. Post Office building was ready for occupancy in late 1995, plans were begun for the renovation of the existing site. Former Mayor Paul Spitzfaden was instrumental in the community center concept. The result was the creation of the Paul R. Spitzfaden Community Center, which is across the street from city hall on East Causeway Approach.
The center has a lounge which contains the reading center, a television and a card tables. There is also an exercise room equipped with hydraulic resistance and cardio equipment. Yoga, line dancing, tai-chi, art classes, ceramics, meditation, table tennis, bridge card games and health awareness classes are some of the activities you can find at the center for residents of all ages. Community social groups such as Mandeville Kiwanis, American Legion and New Image also hold their recurring meetings at the Center. The Council on Aging St. Tammany serves lunch daily to seniors and provide transportation. Call (985) 624-4659 if you would like their services.
